FAQ

Where are lessons held and how much do they cost?
Lessons are held in The Arthur Conan Doyle Center, 25 Palmerston Place EH12 5AP. Lessons are £27 for a 45 minute lesson or £19 for a 30 minute lesson.

Are there block booking rates available?
Yes there are block rates available. A block of eight, 45 minute lessons is £205 which saves you £11 over the eight lessons.

What do I need to bring to lessons?

All you need to bring is a guitar and a willingness to learn. I have guitars available for students to use in lessons but I encourage students to use their own instruments as that is the one you will be practicing on.
Do I need to be able to read music?
No you don’t need to read music to be able to read guitar notation. There are 2 forms of guitar notation, guitar tablature and chord boxes. They are much easier to follow than standard music notation and you will learn to read them in the first lesson without any problem.
How much practice do I need to do every day to get good?
I recommend that beginners practice at least 20 mins 4 – 5 days a week to see a good steady level of progress. Students often break up these blocks of practices sessions by doing 10 minutes and returning later and doing another 10- 15 min. Practicing is a habit that you will get into and is essential if you want to progress to a playing level that you will be happy with. It can be very rewarding to be able to play a piece perfectly on a Friday that you had only begun to learn on the previous Monday.
